home... Enza Zaden. The company was founded in 1938 by Jacob Mazereeuw under the name ‘De Enkhuizer Zaadhandel’. It traded in open pollinated seed from vegetable seeds to flower seeds and seed potatoes. In 1959 the company started with plant breeding and the first crossings, and many to come, were made. The breeding work quickly led to success. The tomato variety ‘Extase’ (1961) became the first major market leader on the Dutch market, as well as enjoying popularity in a wide range of other countries.
